Professional Experience

Laura Granier is a shareholder with Lionel Sawyer & Collins' Gaming and Regulatory Law Department. Laura’s practice includes complex commercial litigation and regulatory work. Her practice also includes successfully defending property owners in eminent domain actions. In addition to her work in eminent domain, Laura’s regulatory experience includes a broad spectrum of work before various agencies with regulatory jurisdiction over education, environmental issues, mining, gaming, taxes, land use, public utilities, financial institutions, and insurance companies and third party administrators. 

 

Laura is the Chair of the Nevada Public Education Foundation and sits on the Executive Board and Steering Committee of Washoe “Ready for Life” – a movement aimed at decreasing the drop out rate and engaging and re-engaging youth so that they graduate high school ready for life. Laura is also the Chair of the Young Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Nevada and a former Barrister with the American Inns of Court. Laura serves as a member of the University of Nevada Reno College of Liberal Arts Advisory Board and as the alumni member of the Miss Nevada Scholarship Organization. She served as President and Vice-President of the Northern Nevada Women Lawyers Association and launched the NNWLA “adopt-a-family” holiday program which provides thousands of dollars in gifts every year to local families in need during the holiday season. 

 

Laura was a 2007 recipient of the “20 Under 40” Award presented by the Reno Tahoe Young Professionals Network in conjunction with the Reno Gazette-Journal. Prior to joining Lionel Sawyer & Collins, Laura worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Procter Hug, Jr., then Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She is a graduate of the University of California Davis School of Law, where she was Executive Editor of the U.C. Davis Law Review and a judicial extern to The Honorable Robert Rose, Supreme Court of Nevada.
